Description: Summer internships through Career Services for students
at CWU interested in opportunities through the Department of Geography. These should be coordinated through Nancy Hultquist, a prof. in the department. Many students need computer mapping and Geographic Information Systems classes as a prerequisite for geo-technical internships.
Others are available for field work, etc., and community
service, or you can design your own in conversation with Nancy.

Domains of interest: Geography

Service Outcomes

This is part of the formalized Learning Agreement between the student, professor, and the on-the-job supervisor.
Work on the job equals approximately 40 hrs/credit of coop ed. Final report, a daily log journal, and a visit to the site near the end of the experience by the CWU adviser.

Service Reflections

Great resource for the community agencies and for the student's resume. Good way to learn field work; e.g.,
taking a GPS unit in the field and marking exotic plant locations or other natural or cultural artifacts. If there are biology majors interested, I know there is a need
for someone to study freshwater mussels in the Sinlahekin Wildlife Area in northern WA state (near Loomis, WA), and
bunkhouse privileges are provided -- maybe a stipend for
food.
