I am the Central to the Community Youth Coordinator. I work with four Liaisons, which include: Primary and Secondary ST.E.P.S.(Student Educators Providing Services) and both Children in the Community and Teens in the Community, as well as their community based organizations, helping to provide opportunities for volunteers to serve in the youth community.
I spent Fall Quarter 2007 establishing the Secondary ST.E.P.S. program in Ellensburg High School. Secondary education majors have the opportunity to volunteer in a high school classroom, to gain more experience before professionally teaching. Opportunities are in various subjects and always being updated. Contact Rikki for more information about volunteering at Ellensburg High School or Ellensburg Home school.
I am a Social Studies education major. I have a lot of volunteer experience, especially with public school children. Some of my experience includes tutoring elementary students who have learning disabilities (five years), Reading Trek program tutoring high school sophomores who are behind in reading (one year), as well as currently tutoring a middle school student here in Ellensburg. My professional experience includes an internship at Sidney Glen Elementary school in Port Orchard, WA as a third grade student teacher, and I also participated in teaching elementary classrooms American Sign Language over five week sessions.
If you have any questions about my position or how to get involved with volunteering through the Civic Engagement Center, please email me at:
